About 4500psi/30Mpa High-Pressure PCP Air Compressor

Last time we talked about the PCP air gun and its principle, I will introduce the 4500psi air gun compressor today. Someone would ask if it is possible to pump up an air gun with a workshop compressor? My answer is simply not. Usually, a shop compressor can only pump up to 150psi, and most PCP air guns require at least 3000psi, so that will not work.

The pressure in the air compressor is measured in psi. A higher psi means that there is more pressure behind the object being fired out of the gun, and therefore the shot is faster and more powerful. Most paintball air compressors get up to 3,000 or 4,500psi, but the actual shot coming out of the paintball gun is anywhere from 450 to 850 because a regulator reduces the psi before it is fired.

Then what are the fittings of a PCP air compressor? For example Sensor; Controller (computer board, control panel, etc.); Valve (pneumatic valve, temperature control valve, safety valve, inlet valve, etc.); Filter; Host; Cooling system (radiator, fan, etc.); Switch (pressure switch), temperature switch, etc.); Gearbox (gearbox、clutch, etc.); Hose (air intake hose, high-pressure hose); Start plate (wire row, contactor, etc.); Instrument (temperature gauge, pressure gage, etc.); Electrical machinery (motors, permanent magnet motors, etc.).

How to use it for the first time? Following all instructions below.

  • Check that fluid levels are full;
  • Make sure that the cooling system, compressor, and auto-purge switches are in the “OFF” position;
  • Connect the 110V power cable to a working, grounded 110V power outlet- The pressure gauge will power on and the display will illuminate;
  • Set shut-off pressure;
  • Close the bleed valve located below the fill whip;
  • Attach the fill hose to the air reservoir you will be filling;
  • Switch the cooling system “ON”- The cooling fan should power on, and coolant should begin to circulate throughout the system.
  • Once the compressor has built up 20 BAR, open the valve on your reservoir (if so equipped) to begin filling.

Shutdown instructions to stop filling, or once the auto shut-off pressure is reached.

  • Set the compressor switch “OFF”(leaving the cooling system running);
  • Close the valve to your air reservoir if so equipped;
  • Open the pressure release (bleed) valve, below the fill hose outlet;
  • After the system has been depressurized, disconnect the fill hose from your reservoir.
  • Continue to allow the cooling system to run for several minutes after shut-down, then switch the cooling system “OFF”

After knowing how to use and how to shut down, now there are some precautions for you:

  • Compressors should be hydro-tested every few years, so make sure that you keep up that schedule. Check out any laws regarding PCP air compressors in your area and be sure to follow them. Finally, familiarize yourself with what psi means and what level your air compressors should be functioning at;
  • One serious risk is that compressed air could be explosive, so please do not put any flammable substance near the filling area;
  • When the air is compressed, it will heat up. So you’d better put a fire hazard near a compressor to remind others.
